Linking Castlebar's Gateways to the Heart of the Town

Non-Statutory Consultation

Mayo County Council is pleased to announce the opening of a period of non-statutory consultation in respect of the Castlebar Active Travel - Orbital Connect Route. This is the first major projectto be progressed under the Local Transport Plan.

The Orbital Connect Route will form the backbone of Castlebar’s Active Travel Network, linking the main southern, western and eastern approach roads directly to the town centre.

This project will deliver safer, more accessible walking and cycling connections to key destinations including the Mall, the Train Station, Lough Lannagh and major residential areas.

Designed as the primary active travel spine for Castlebar, it will strengthen day to day sustainable mobility, support healthy travel choices and enhance connectivity across the town.
