Notice of intention to extend the duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied), in order to provide a further period of time to prepare and make a new Mayo County Development Plan

Pursuant to the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2021 and Section 11D of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, Mayo County Council hereby gives notice that it intends to extend the duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied) up to the 20th of September 2022.

The extension of duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied) is necessary in order to provide a further period of time, of up to 6 months, to prepare and make a new Mayo County Development Plan for the functional area of Mayo County Council.

 
Strategic Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment 

In compliance with the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2021 and Section 11D(2) of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, the Planning Authority has carried out Screening for Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in considering the extension of duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied), in accordance with the Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive (2001/42/EC) and pursuant to Article 13B of the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2004 (S.I. No.436 of 2004), as amended.

Screening for Appropriate Assessment has also been carried out in considering the extension of duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied), in accordance with the requirements of Article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and Section 177U of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.  In accordance with Section 177U it has been determined by the Competent Authority that Appropriate Assessment is not required.

You can make online or postal submissions on the SEA and AA Screening Reports and/or all associated documents.  Submissions must be made in writing no later than 4.00pm on Tuesday 22nd February 2022.

How to make a Submission 

Mayo County Council hereby invites any interested parties to make submissions or observations with respect to the proposed extension of the duration of the existing Mayo County Development Plan  2014–2020 (as varied).

Submissions/Observations must include the full name and address of the person(s) making the submission and where relevant, the body or organisation represented.  Submissions should be in ONE medium only i.e. online or hard copy.

Submissions/Observations may be made either directly through the online consultation portal on the Mayo County Council’s website (Mayo.ie) or by post.  E-mailed submissions will not be accepted. Please note that observations or submissions will be made public on the website and at the offices of the Planning Department.

To make an online submission, register for an account today on consult.mayo.ie.  This is a one-time process for all Mayo County Council public consultations. You will receive an email with a link to activated your registration. Click on the link provided to log in and make a submission.

Written observations or submissions should be marked ‘Extend the lifetime of the Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied)’, and submitted to the Forward Planning, Mayo County Council, Aras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, F23 WF90. Observations or submissions must include the full name and address of the person(s) making the submission and where relevant, the body or organisation represented. 

Please note that observations or submissions will be made public on the website and at the offices of the Planning Department.

Children or groups or associations representing children are entitled to make submissions or observations.

All observations or submissions received before the closing date will be taken into consideration.

Note: Requirement for names and addresses

Any submission should state your name, address and where relevant, the body or organisation represented. All submissions to the Notice to Extend the lifetime of the Mayo County Development Plan 2014-2020 (as varied) will form part of the statutory Chief Executive’s Report to be presented to the full Council.

Please be aware that this will include the names and addresses of those making the submissions.

Accordingly, the report and its contents will be included in the minutes of that meeting and consequently will be published on our website.

The deadline for receipt of submissions/observations is 4pm on Tuesday 22nd February 2022. Please note late submissions will not be considered.
