NOTICE OF PROPOSED DRAFT VARIATION NO. 2 OF THE MAYOCOUNTY DEVELOPMENT PLAN 2022 – 2028
Notice is hereby given, pursuant to Section 58 of the Planning and Development Act 2024 (as amended), and in accordance with the transitional provisions of the Planning and Development Act 2024 and the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended), that Mayo County Council has prepared proposed Draft Variation No. 2 to the Mayo County Development Plan 2022–2028.
The purpose of the proposed Draft Variation No. 2 is to update the Renewable Energy Strategy for County Mayo in order to align with European Union and national planning and climate policy.
The proposed Variation documents together with the accompanying Strategic Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment Screening documents are available to view as follows:
(ii) At the Planning Office, Áras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Mayo, F23 WF90
during normal opening hours between Monday and Friday.
Written submissions or observations in respect of the proposed Variation 2 may be made to the Planning Authority in the following ways:
• By post addressed to: Variation 2 Mayo County Development Plan 2022-2028, Forward Planning, Áras an Chontae, The Mall, Castlebar, Mayo, F23 WF90
• Via the Council’s online consultation portal at consult.mayo.ie
PLEASE NOTE:
Submissions/observations to be made by one medium only and should include:
Full Name & Address of person making submission/observation
Details of organisation/community group/company which you represent where relevant
Email submissions will not be accepted.
The period for making submissions extends from Tuesday 28th April 2026 to Tuesday, the 26th May 2026 at 5pm inclusive.
All submissions will be published on the Council’s Consultation Portal following GDPR compliant redaction. Submissions will also form part of the statutory Chief Executive’s Report presented to the full Council.
Please ensure that your submission does not contain vexatious, libelous, or confidential information, including third-party personal data without consent. Mayo County Council reserves the right to redact any submission, in whole or in part, as necessary.
All personal data provided will be treated as confidential in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
Written submissions or observations redacted for privacy purposes shall, save in exceptional circumstances, be published on consult.mayo.ie within 10 working days of its receipt by the authority.
The Chief Executive shall prepare a report on any submissions or observations received during the public consultation period, and this report shall be furnished to the Office of the Planning Regulator, the Elected Members and the Minister, no later than 4 weeks after the public consultation process is completed.
Written submissions/observations made to the Planning Authority within the above period shall be taken into consideration by the Office of the Planning Regulator before it makes a recommendation to the Minister on the matter.
