Cover Letter

I would like to see the use of this line as a Greenway to protect the route until the objective of developing a railway can be achieved. The construction of a modern rail line on this route in the future will require access for heavy machinery to a corridor along the existing line and this can then be used as the new Greenway. The best solution is therefore a Greenway on the track for the next period and then when funding is available, a new rail line with Greenway alongside.

Observations

Greenway now with Railway and Greenway later

The old rail line north of Claremorris is a valuable resource for lical communities and the tourism economy. The best use of this resource is to develop it as a Greenway in the short term and when the rail line is being upgraded to build a Greenway alongside the new railway

Main opinion:

Greenway

Main reasons:

If MCC only has the objective of using this rail line for a railway it is likely that this resource will remain unused for many years. It is possible to achieve both a Greenway and a Railway but the sequence should be Greenway now with both the Railway and Greenway later
