Compact Growth- Key Development Area/Regeneration

Ballina Town Centre has two prominent areas which are suitable for regeneration.

UDRF funding should be used to target regeneration of the old Ballina Mineral Water Site and Walsh Street area.

Both areas have significant potential and are in central locations.

The BMW site has potentiall for multi functional development of retail, multi story parking, aprartments and civic space and market space. This will free up green field space at the back of the Hubert Street houses to create a town centre park. The Walsh Street area could be developed into a cultural quater connceting the Jackie Clarke collection to the Mary Robinson Centre. A flag stone/ cobble stone Walsh st area with roofed coverings to allow for arts, crafts and market space should be explored as well as a connection with wide European Style steps brining Walsh St. and the town centre, more closely aligned to the River Moy area which will received enhancement as part of the flodd relief scheme works.
